Sun BLOCKED

http://reader.metronews.ca/digital_launch.aspx?id=30fa0b18-e07a-4acf-983b-d3c916f62913&pnum=16

An article talking about the dangers of sun screen to pregnant women! I hope this link continues to work, if not I do have it saved as a PDF and I can e-mail to anyone upon request.

The article speaks about the ingredient retinyl palmitate, which has been found in other medications leading to birth defects. In the end, every type of sun screen and lotion has some sort of ingredient that people will caution us to use. The article does not explain what other medications it's referring to (it mentions acne meds) and it does not explain the type of birth defects. It's good to be aware of what is being studied and making news, and I will at least try to avoid the brands mentioned in the article. Personally I always used Banana Boat, Neutrogena and Coppertone!

Brands pregnant women may want to avoid include:
Banana Boat Sport Performance SPF 30
Coppertone Sport Ultra Sweatproof SPF 30
Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport SPF 30
No-Ad with Aloe and Vitamin E SPF 45
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist SPF 45
Banana Boat Sport Performance SPF 100
Neutrogena Sensitive Skin SPF 60

Official like Facebook

We became official today.

We heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time :) I didn't expect that was going to happen on my first official visit to the midwife! We go to Midwife Alliance, an amazing environment with caring midwives who help you pee perfectly into a cup and on a stick all in one shot.
She asked me if I went to the washroom (as Phil said I should) and I said no. She said it could be harder to hear the heartbeat on a full bladder- WHAT?! How exciting!
WE heard the heartbeat and it was like time stood still. Phil smiled big enough for the both of us and I was quite quiet, in shock, listening closely to the racing heartbeat of the baby near my pelvic bone and my loud barking heart in between.
We finally get our first ultrasound and visual to go with the heartbeat in about two weeks! My friend got her ultrasound at 9 weeks, I'm so anxious!
Once we kissed following the meeting Phil asked me THE QUESTION:
Can I post it on Facebook?
As two media people we both have a lot of close contacts we communicate with through Facebook, but not everyone has heard the news yet.
By noon the world knew and the LIKES and sweet messages keep pouring through. It's beautiful, and so modern day official.

Baby:
Healthy heartbeat
11 weeks and 4 days

Design Update:
Phil and his mom went to get the chocolate brown room carpet today! Thank you End of the Roll!

Cravings:
I ate way too much garlic today :(

PR:
Had a great meeting with Melissa DiMarco to secure my PR position at Out There for well, the next seven months or so. Let the TIFF planning begin!

Saturday daze and beauty glaze

It's amazing how this pregnancy allows me to sit in my lazy boy and do absolutely nothing. I could be packing for my move next weekend, painting my nails, working on marketing proposals...
Instead I just sit there, rub my belly, and play pregnant.
It's insane!
I finally put on Sex and the City in attempt to add some glam to my life. Thankfully after the film I did get out in the sunshine and walked over to Wal Mart to buy that wicked nail polish colour of green I saw at yesterday (Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Mint Sprint).
After I grabbed the nail polish, some ammonia-free hair colour , a wicked white straw hat from H&M and a bunch of groceries I came home to realize that 1- there was NO wicked pastel green nail polish in my bag and it wasn't even on the receipt! So I have no idea what happened to it. I do know I grabbed it, the nail polish was the first item in my basket!
Oh the pregnant brain ;).

UPDATE: I did go back to get my nail polish and a few other treats like You Curl - As seen on tv! Well I've never seen it on tv before but it looks cool and actually works well!

I tried it on my new hair. I took out my washed out highlights with some NO AMMONIA L'Oreal Paris Healthy Look Creme Gloss Color. LOVE IT! I loved the Royal Jelly conditioner that came with it I went out and bought the big bottles. Now I've got green nails and brown hair, pretty much the theme of my life right now. It's what we should be painting our bedroom next week!!

I feel good, nothing like Carrie Bradshaw and her colourful friends to motivate any girl to put on heels and get out during a beautiful day! It was the first time I watched both STC movies while pregant...and boy it's emotional!

I added some colour to my blog. I look forward to playing with colours and I'll be experimenting. Considering my other both (fashion driven) is called Noir et Blanc- this is a big step over the rainbow for me!

Phil is filming one of his best friends, and one of the best beatboxers around Scott Jackson as he interviews beatbox legend Eklips (Paris, France) here in Toronto. So proud of my boys! He deserves a nice massage when he comes home tonight :)

He motivates me

I was really sick on Mother's Day. I had a week long virus and Phil and I went through some really intense memories that we needed to share with eachother. It was a lot of growing pain in the best way possible. The best part of spending your life with someone is taking the time to discover eachother and really getting to know one and other inside out.

It's quite terrifying.

Anyways, Mother's Day weekend I was in bed and exhausted, complaining about how I wanted to work and begin my blog.
Phil: Why don't you begin your blog now?
Me: Because i'm sick
Phil: Well isn't that the point?

Once again my best friend put me on top of my game and reminded me why I need him in my life! Of course the point of my blog is to talk about everything that happens to a pregnant working mom! To offer advice on dealing with the sickness and pain! I was struggling to do marketing proposals while curled up with soup and Kleenex watching the black and white classic Sabrina.

Since Phil made me realize how real I intended this blog to be, I wanted to make sure I would be ready to dedicated my time, heart and soul to this blog. Plus the fact that I have pregnant brain and I forget everything, I've taken notes down on paper, in my books and in my phone that I want to share.

If there are any topics we want to blog about please feel free to let me know.

I finally made it

I'm not new to blogspot. But I am new to blogging as a pregnant woman. I'm ten weeks pregnant, well probably 11 weeks now, and I've been trying to blog for six weeks.
What finally got me here? Well for one I'm alone for the first time in a very long time. As a working publicist for an entertainment show and a music company, I had to work very late tonight. Usually I would give it all up to be with my boyfriend Phil (who we will talk about..a lot). It's that marketing time of year filled with film festivals and events and with my move (in with Phil and his family) in two weeks, I had to pick tonight to curl up and focus on my many marketing packages.
I did a great job. I was about to reward myself with a hot shower but I didn't feel ready to settle down. I feel accomplished in both my jobs- PR and motherhood and I need to share it with the world, and hopefully the world share's its advice and stories back with me.
I tried starting this blog a few weeks ago, but Blogspot was down the night I wanted to begin and with my pregnant brain who knows if I just completely forgot or if I cried over the fact that I couldn't blog.

Either way. I'm here to share my story. I have a few memories that I will post here to share and hopefully relate with a few of you.
As time passes I hope to share daily events and thoughts that occur as an excited mother who loves her job but really only has BABY on the brain.
We will go through my firsts together. My first trimester, my first moments of nausea, my first second trimester, my first third trimester, my first labor. We will get to know my midwife together and we will discover my changing body together. We will go through the passion and obstacles as a young couple, madly in love becoming parents for the first time. We will go through a summer of sober parties, and a summer where my love has to travel for work and strives towards the best goals possible for our little family. I will continue to work in the fast paced industry of public relations while meeting these milestones and attending prenatal classes.

Perhaps for some of the readers if it will be your first as well. For all you returning mom's don't hesitate to share a word of advice or comment. We're all working towards the same beautiful prize.
